What a very strange time period historically speaking. Not only were US and Soviets allies against the axis of evil, the soviets subsequently became the next threat to capitalism. The start of the cold war.
From 'biggest fiends' to 'biggest enemies' at the drop of Hitlers hat.

While we both fought against the Nazi's, we were not really allies in any other sense. As the Soviets grabbed up land and rolled the tanks into other countries, the US, France and Great Britain adopted defensive positions in Europe. The West was not enthralled with collectivism, so we did what we could to slow the spread of Soviet Imperialism without actually shooting at each other (on the record, that is).
Germany is very fortunate that we prevailed or it would likely have been ruined as the former East Germany was ruined by communism. There is no better example of the destructive nature of communism than the fall of East Germany after WWII.

During WWII the US and the Soviet Union were allies only because they had a common enemy, Germany, after Germany was defeated the allies debated on who would occupy the country, that is why Germany was divided into East Germany ( Soviet occupied ) and West Germany ( US occupied ) and Berlin was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin.
The issue was Communism vs Capitalism.

in fact u have to know that the URSS entered in WW2 in 1941 because before it soviet union signed a pact with nazis called Molotoff-Ribbentropp pact and they engaged themselves not to violate their fields of influence in Europe ( for example they shared Poland)...in 1941 the Soviet Union enters in WW2 as one of the allies together with USA, UK, France...But as soon USA gets nuclear bomb the Soviet Union gets a colder relation with america. It refuses post-war help for reconstruction and prohibits to its' satellites to receive it. Early 1940-es 2 states were created in Germany without constructing the Berlin wall. 1949, NATO was created. The Soviet Union tries to create its' own block : known as the Warsawa pact. In fact late 40-es and early 50-es correspond to the beginning of Cold war. in 1953 Stalin died and process seemed to stop, but if u see the 1960es and what we had till 1991 it shows that was just a period where the war got "silent" and "invisible". I tried to do my best, but I think my English isnt good enough. However hope I could help you
