Mankind has been warring since we first learned to use weapons. I admit, I was always the one who's support a war no matter what, and bestow glory upon the troops who fought; however, after listening to 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda', I've grown up a little and come to realise that war isn't all glory- rather. it's young men and women being sent off to kill and be killed and witness horrors beyond imagining- and yet we can't stop it. Why?

I have never fought in a war, and I hope I never will, so I cannot fully understand what these people have been through; I hope I am never conscripted, and I hope on behalf of everyone else, too.

When will we all stand up together and say we won't march any more?

Thanks

The answer is yes, there will be an end to war.

Jehovah God has promised this.

Psalm 37:8-11) 8 Let anger alone and leave rage; Do not show yourself heated up only to do evil.  9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. ו [Waw] 10 And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. . .

(Isaiah 2:4) . . .And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.

I am against wars, while at the same time, I fully support the men and women who volunteer in armed services. They've volunteered so we won't have to deal with drafts, and they're putting their lives on the line for decisions made in the safety of the White House and Congress.

There will always be war as long as there are conflicting interests. This is actually a conflict studies question. If you think about it, war is simply the highest escalation of a disagreement. It's no different than you and I disagreeing on the tallest building in the world at a bar, and then throw fists at each other because we both want to be right. Countries face the same issues at a global scale. North Korea, for example, is in the process of talks to stop their nuclear program. They want the program to continue and succeed perhaps to ensure their country's security. If they have a nuclear deterrant, other countries may hesitate to attack. And they will have something to bargain with (which is what they're doing now, we're offering them incentives in money and oil for them to shut down their program). A nuclear weapon is today's fist behind the talk. It's like in middle school again, where some kids talk big, but you can beat them up. While other kids are total a-holes, but you don't mess with them because you know they've given every kid a bloody nose.

Wars are part of the conflict resolution process (be it not a good one). It's usually there, because you've failed to convince the other side to back down by pursuation (have them see things your way and agree you're right), negotation/compromise (you give them this, if they give you that), threat (you if don't do this, I will do that). So you resort to Force (war).

Why won't wars end? Because we cannot avoid conflict as long as we have different interests. And apparently, not even the tragedy of war can unite everyone to share the same interests.

The human animal is the top predator in the animal chain.

'Man' is an agressive being and needs to dominate (nature's survival technique) - as such, 'he' will always find something to fight over.

That is the history of 'mankind' !

It's a sad legacy to leave to future generations of our species.

There's no need to be pessimisstic. Yes, so we've been feuding since time immemorial, but look on the positive side...I believe we'll stop sometime in life!
