Your doctor said you should have a period? If your doc said that, and you are having a period, then why ask if it's normal?

I've been on depo for a decade and I've had only a few periods during all those years, and some minor spotting the first few years right before my next shot was due.

If you believe you misunderstood your doctor and want to verify that all is well, then have your parent call him or her and make sure that you having a normal-like flow is okay and not uncommon on the depo. My (regular) periods stopped immediately when I got on it, but I know that doesn't happen for everyone.

You can read more info from the site I copied this from: "Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use."

I love depo and am happy to stay on it for the no-periods (for me) side effect alone. I hope it works well for you too!

Why are you on the depo shot when you are only 13??

Anyway, I would suggest you tell you doctor if it is a heavy bleed. Normally on the depo shot you get only light periods/spotting to begin with, then after some months probably no period whatsoever.

Better to check just in case.

I've heard that people either do not get their periods at all or have their period for at least a month straight.

I would never recommend depo to anyone, I was on it for four years and had horrible mood swings and weight gain and spotting. After my very first shot I had no period at all, only spotting.

The Depo shot can have different side effects for everybody. I used it for two years and after the first six months i stopped bleeding all togather. A friend of mine had it and got straight off of it after the first shot because she never stopped bleeding the whole three months, and she became very sick. Just be careful and watch out for unusual signs because this shot can have some side effects.

One would question why you are on the depo shot when you are 13. That aside, I would say to trust your doctor. All doctors has assess to a book called the CPS that contains information about side effects, unusually symptoms etc.

At 13, why are you on the depo shot? I don't believe this to be normal. I would question the doctor about this. At your age, it won't be good. Ask for other birth control to control flow.
