Satanism is a religion that teaches to indulge all desires rather than abstain for anything. According to Satanism, you should do anything you want. It doesn't matter if it helps other people or hurts them, you should do it. If you really want to blow up a gas station, you should do it according to Satanism, and additionally, if you do not do it, you are doing something wrong. However, there are a few contradicting principles in it, such as a Satanist believes they should not hurt children. You'd have to ask one of them how that's supposed to add up.
Devil worshipping, on the other hand, has to do with the active process of servitude to a demonic entity. This can involve demon possession, witchcraft, necromancy, and sometimes sorcery. A devil worshipper choses to bind themselves to the demon or demons they wish to gain power from, and fulfills the desires of that demon in order to maintain their power.

Satanism is a word which has been used over the years to describe a number of different belief systems in a number of contexts. People claiming to be Satanists—or outsiders claiming to describe Satanism—ascribe a wide variety of beliefs to Satanism. These range from the literal worship of a malevolent spiritual being (Theistic Satanism); to a kind of subversive ritual performance stressing the mockery of Christian symbols (most notably the Black Mass); to the claimed rediscovery of an ancient but misunderstood religion (e.g. Setianism, which conflates Satan with the Egyptian god Set); to the exaltation of hedonistic recreation, and the celebration of selfishness and pleasure.
A Satanist does not believe in God, Satan, The Devil, Angels, Heaven, Hell, etc, all these items belong to Judeo-Christianity. If this is news to you then please, at some point, read the Description of Satanism. Neither does a Satanist believe in the Buddha's reincarnations, any myths of Judaism, Islam or Upanishad. They are irrelevant and silly ideas. (Although, for some strange reason, some Satanists say they believe that the world is carried on the back of a huge turtle (-sex unknown) by four elephants. But that's another story.)
These are people who claim to worship The Devil, Lucifer, the Anti-God, The Dark Lord or Satan or whoever. Often they talk of their preferred deity in the same way that Christians talk of their God, i.e., worship Him or die. Frequently Devil Worshippers require that you Sell your soul to the devil in order to "be one of them".
Hope this clears things up for you.

"satanism" doesn't really have a defined meaning - it means something different to everyone who practices it. the word satan means adversary, so this could either mean a demon who lives in hell or anywhere, or just someone's darker or more materialistic side. a lot of satanists i've met say that to them, "satan" means a part of themselves which they strive to be at one with. then again, i've had many lavey (church of satan) satanists trying to convince me the only reason they call themselves satanists is because the name doesn't mean anything to them anyway, so they might aswell. which sounds bloody stupid if you ask me.
oh - and as for this "a satanist doesn't believe in satan" i'm always hearing, they clearly do, otherwise they wouldn't be called SATANists. tell that word-to-word to anyone pre-lavey and they'd scoff at you. it's a confusion of terms - satan is NOT the name of the christian devil, it's a word which has been around since long before christianity to describe any polar adversary to a lot of things. the name for the christian satan is lucifer, or to avoid confusion, "the christian satan".
"devil worshipping" doesn't really exist as an ideology, its just a label ignorant people, religious or otherwise, use to degrade people who have a bit of a dark side. but if it did, i guess it would be defined as the worship of the christian devil, i.e. lucifer.

i think of it rather is extra alongside the strains of asking what's the version between witchcraft and wiccan. Satanism is an known faith. There are church homes of devil. it is an prepared faith with ideals, rituals, and strategies of doing issues interior the heirarchy of the church. somebody could be a devil worshiper via call with out having any prepared faith to maintain on with. In essence, they're of a similar concept.

Satanists are more organized, and usually have a buffet (put-luck) before the service. Devil-worshippers are an ad-hoc lot. They'll just drop what they're doing and bow to the devil. It's really a hoot

Two other people here got it right, Satanism is to indulge, the pick the word satanism for it's symoblism, which is adversary to god, for them it's not literaly, they are the adversaries of those who believe in god and conform to follow rules of denying themselves. Satanist believe that you should never say no to yourself as long as it does not hurt anyone else (unless said one wants to be hurt) they can celebrate christmas if they want, not for religious backing but because they want to. They aren't devil worshipers because they do not believe in the devil, god or anything like that. They believe you should indugle for you, but not affect any one else, it is your life, you are king of you, but no one else.
devil worshping is what the name sugguests.

Satanists were the elitist, high-minded, suburban fat kids from high school who had sex with their family pets, and were too dumb to be computer nerds who now get together and play dungeon and dragons... STILL. Devil Worshippers are pedophiles who pretend to be philosophers, and have sex with male satanists.
