Hi. Not true to say you will know when your waters break! It does resemble urine. You may not know if you're leaking urine or fluid. I had to mention to my doc last week because I couldn't tell. If it is premature rupture of membranes it can simply drip very slightly, just few drops a day. Also the membranes can reseal, so not always permanent.
Doctor didn't appear worried ( was 34 weeks then ) but said if it carried on to ring labour ward where they can do a test using a cotton bud type stick.
Since then it appeared to stop but last couple of days back again. What worried me was on one day I woke up to quite a puddle in my pj's! However I did have a stinking cold so was coughing and sneezing a lot (enough said! ). But it certainly didn't smell like urine at all.
The only way to be sure would be to go for the test.

From personal experience I think the biggest thing that you may need to know is that- When it does break- it may not come out as a "huge" gush. That is what I was looking for when I was pregnant with my son. And it was quite the opposite- My underwear were a little wet, and I thought that I had leaked urine when I laughed or something, I changed pantyliners and went to bed- the same thing happened again the next morning- and again- I thought "wow" maybe discharge?- it was a little "yellow" but had no odor. My sister convinced me to go to the hospital to get it checked and they used some kind of paper strip that changed color to tell me that it was indeed amniotic fluid. Good Luck.

Mine was very watery and clear. It didn't smell at all. It's kind of like water. You'll know when you're leaking amniotic fluid. Good luck!

I don't know as I was asleep last time and woke up in a wet bed- my husband (bless him) thought I had wet myself! I knew though that my waters had broken as I was getting regular, strong contractions.
I'm now 30 weeks with my second one and feeling the same as you-even though everything went well last time. Try not to worry, I'm sure if anything does happen you will know when it has.

i've had my water break with both my boys. both times i heard a pop sort of like a balloon popping, then a gush. its alot of water that wont stop i soaked a overnight pad in a matter of 2 minutes by the time i got to the hospital which is 5 mins from our house my pants were soaking wet. it kinda smelled metallic (like blood), and it was clear in color. with my first one my water broke right before i was going to bed and my second when i got up in the morning.

It is clear yellowish in color (very light yellow though). Feels just like water going down your legs (if you break your water prematurely) and DOES NOT smell anything!!!

I delivered my son at 35 weeks due to PROM (premature rupture of the membrane) so I know. I broke my water and had a hhhhuuuuggggeee gush (I flooded my bathroom floor!!!)

You WILL know when your water breaks. Also lie on your back and feel your tummy, nice and round with the odd lump and bump that is the baby. After your waters break and you do the same thing you feel a LOT more of the baby, but seriously you will know.
Good luck, aw ickle baby, I want another one X
