Somehow I stupidly shoved a pen into the pocket of my favorite kakhi pants, and it bled ink all over the pocket and seam. I used Spray&Wash and washed it twice with no success. I have NOT run it through the dryer though...just in case the heat might set it. Any suggestions besides buying a new pair of pants and not putting pens in my pockets?

Rubbing alcohol will take it out. In your case, I would put a clean terry towel in the pocket, blot the alcohol on the right side of the fabric using the terry towel to collect the ink. Then, repeat the process on the wrong side of the fabric. This will help keep the ink from bleeding and creating a bigger mess. You may find it a bit more difficult to remove ink from the seam, however. If the alcohol doesn't work, the makers of Goo Gone make a product called Ink Away (available at the discounters) and Carbona Stain Devils makes a remover, too. Both will instantly remove the stain.

Rubbing alcohol is part of it, but there is a fool-proof way with several steps that has worked for me a few times. Being a waitress I constantly had that in my white apron.
Ball-point Pen:
1. Pour denatured alcohol through stain. putting the paper towels underneath was a good tip. Rub in petroleum jelly. Sponge with dry cleaning solvent (comes in Dryel kit).
2. Soak in hottest water safefor fabric and detergent for 20 minutes.
3. Wash in hottest water safe for fabric and with detergent as normal.
Fountain Pen:
1. Run cold water through stain until no more color comes out. Rub in lemon juice and detergent.
2. Let stand 5 minutes, then wash in hottest water safe for fabric with detergent.
If a yellow stain remains, use a commerical rust remover or oxalic acid, as for rust stains. KEEP THIS AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND HANDLE CAREFULLY!!!

Use Oxy Clean I use that and it's gotten a lot of hard tough stains out and I also recommend Lestoil which is good for getting out tough ring around the collar stains and others as well. I used both to get a tough motor oil stain off my sister's skirt.

I have had success with hairspray, any brand. Spray enough to saturate the ink stain. Let sit for a few minutes. Spray again and wash in cold water.
Good luck.

Try hairspray. My mom was a nurse and accidentally washed her uniforms with a red pen in the pocket. After soaking the stain with hairspray and re-washing, the stain was completely gone.
