The answer to this would depend on so very many factors, including type of employment, profession, career; family situation; which city; personal preferences.
Here are my thoughts in general:
Large cities can be fun, particularly for young adults without children and enough discretionary income to enjoy it, esp. living right in the city. Living in the suburbs of a large city can be a good compromise for families with pre-teen adn teen kids, as there are a lot of educational and extra curricular activities available.
Rural or small town living can be especially nice for families, with children of any age, although sometimes the educational offerings for highschool age is too limited.
Small city (100,000 pop) is a good blend of both worlds, and suitable for just about anyone, except those who thrive on city life or prefer rural isolation. In small cities, most amenities and opportunities are available, bur the commuting problems are minimal.

Personal preference. I grew up in the country and moved to the city(it's where the jobs are). As a side bonus,I drive 10 minutes to work, don't buy much gas,and my care last 15 years and more. Hope to retire to the quiet countryside though. ;-)=
