This is my question of the day!

I have called Scotts about 5 times. I have gotten about 3 different answers to this question!

I want to put down pre-emergent (no fertilizer in it) and it is the granular kind. It slightly sprinkled over night , the roads are slightly damp and the grass feels barely wet (almost just a little) . I was told that you dont want to put it down until the grass is COMPLETELY DRY , however , it is a 70% chance of rain tonight and I would like it to be down before then, but some say that even if it rains tonight , that I should not put it down while the grass is wet, and that it will not wash all of it off of there, and I got told differently 2 x !

which is it please!!

Should I wait until it is completely sunny and dry even though it may not rain for a week or two afterwards? or should I do it now!?

The big question for pre-emergent weed killers is when to apply them. Pre-emergent herbicides only work if they are applied to your lawn before the weed's growth period. But if applied too early, weather will dilute the herbicide and the weed will grow unencumbered. So if you put it down and it rains it will be diluted and may not work properly.

If it rains then no problem. All it has to do it melt into the ground to work. there is no reason the rain won't wash it off the grass. It would take an enormous amount of rain to dilute the pre-emerge.If that were the case it would be gone in no time.As long as you put the correct amount down then it should work for you all during the growing season.

FOR BEST RESULTS it is best to wait until the grass is dry. The rain that is coming will dilute the product and it will not work as well as it is supposed to. When you begin to put down the fertilizer by itself, before a light rain or light watering would do it best. Follow the instructions on the package. (That should best tell you what to do with any chemicals, not just yard stuff.)

there's another question out there from someone who wants to apply the pre-emergent in the rain! I'd think that would be messy. Go ahead and try to apply to damp grass, but if your pre-emergent is not applying evenly/is clumping--better wait until it's dry. Watch your feet--you don't want to get this stuff on your shoes if you can help it.

The reason for applying it to dry grass is so that you can ger an even spread and applying it in to damp grass will scourch any thing growing.

Do it on a sunny day and then water it in with your hose.
