I like to figure it out. Usually get frustrated and have to refer to the manual for fine tuning.

I figure it out by myself! The owners manuals are always 5+ big pages with small print! Takes way to long to read them! I can figure it out in half the time!

I try to figure it out myself. I have found that the owners manual only confuses me more. They can't just explain something in plain english, it has to be difficult. Or maybe I just can't comprehend. Whatever the reason usually I can figure it out on my own.

I usually try and figure stuff out on my own and then use the manual to check things I really can't figure out.

depends what it is. Most mechanical things are easy enough for myself or someone else in the family to figure out. However for specialty items that are a far bit complex, we refer to them (by complex I mean moreso than a gas mower as we fixed one of those without the instruction manual).
