Don't try to memorize WHILE they're teaching--there's time for that after the class. Concentrate on what's being said and take the notes. Read any assignments & make any notes of any material you don't understand. Even if they're not talking about what you want answered, listen intently. The teacher or someone in the class may answer your question(s) OR, at the appropriate time, stop the teacher and ask your question(s).

I take notes on almost everything the teacher says and then highlight the most important. If she/he says something twice, or emphasises it, I underline it or write it in bigger letters. Then, before a test, I write out all the highlighted stuff- it helps me memorize it. Oh, and as for being able to learn as the teacher teaches, some of my friends record the hours and play them back at home... useful, but, in my opinion, too complicated. Good luck!

You don't memorize things "when" the teacher is talking. You do that at home when you study your notes. The most effective way to take notes is learn note taking called shorthand and to block everyone out when the teacher is talking. One distraction can make you lose your place and possibly some valuable information!

People have different learning styles. The best way I learn is by doing problems myself.
