I'm 34 weeks and 1 day. I went to the doctor today. He was VERY concerned about my weight. I've only gained 17 lbs. He said by now they like women to atleast gain 20 to 25 lbs. He measured the baby and it is a week behind. My measuring has always been behind. Either I am having a smaller baby or the date isn't correct. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else have had this issue? I am getting an ultrasound sometime next week because they think the baby might not be as big as they'd like and I'm not as big as they'd like. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this. Thanks.

Weight gain is not generally taken as an important measurement of how the baby is growing any more. In the UK, women are not weighed at all at ante natal appointments. I also think that 17 pounds is fine. I was told by a midwife that putting on 20 pounds for the whole pregnancy is fine, and you will put that on by the end. And being 3 pounds behind the 20 pounds that you 'should' have put on is not an issue. Maybe you just lost 3 pounds off you.

I have 2 friends whose measurements are small. I was told that up to 3cm more or less is fine anyway as it's not an exact science.
I have a friend who is quite petite and she was over 3cm less so they sent her for an ultrasound and the baby was just fine - quite big actually! I also have another friend who is 2cm behind and the midwife said that's fine and not a cause for concern.

I doubt it has anything to do with your due date. You might have a deep pelvis so be carrying your baby further back.

Don't worry and good luck!

Hi I'm 35 weeks and have put on 21 1/2 pounds. My bump growth has slowed down, going from two weeks ahead a month ago to bang on at last visit. Also no weight gain for six weeks but I've already posted about that and thanks to everyone for your help!
Some women do only put on a stone though, it has so much to do with pre pregnancy weight etc and isn't always an indicator of how healthy your baby is. I just got concerned because the pattern suddenly changed for me. Some women have huge bumps and tiny babies and vice versa.
At least doc is on the ball and looking out for you. Already some very reassuring answers on here for you so I'll not repeat them but I'm sure all will go well and great to get that extra ultrasound.
Good luck!

I have had 2 daughters, gained little weight and showed way behind what i should have, my babies seemed to be very compact inside me. My first daughter was 5 12 and 2nd was 6 11, so nothing at all to worry about. Up until the week before both i kept getting told i would be lucky if they where 4 pounds.

I am pregnant again and they want me to go for growth scan at 32 weeks, even though im only 12 just now, as my consutent put it, i grow small babys.

They where short at 18 inches also and there heads where small at 32, but they where good enough weights and perfectly healthy.

I only gained 13lb in my pregnancy from start to finish. I went to 41 weeks but only started showing at about 32 weeks. I didn't have to buy maternity clothes, I wore size 12 (UK size) jeans till full term.

I never got weighed in any appointment, I only know this because I weighed myself at home. Two days after my daughter was born I was back in my pre-preg jeans. I was just under a stone lighter than when I got pregnant.

If you've got an ultrasound then try not to worry, hopefully any problem will be picked up on that and dealt with easily. If there is a problem it could just be your dates, which would be annoying but everything would be OK in the end!

Most of the weight you gain in pregnancy is fluid, extra blood, amnotic fluid etc, so it's not necessarily to do with the size of the baby. I lot of the time if your belly isn't showing too much it's simply because the baby is happily squishing your internal organs instead of projecting forward.

I measured about six weeks behind, give or take, for most of my pregnancy but my daughter disagreed! She weighed in at 7lb 4.5oz, 21 inches, 13.5 inch head and was born naturally on her bedroom floor at 41 weeks of pregnancy exactly.

Try not to worry. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with the scan and the birth!!!

I'm 34 weeks also and i've gained 20 lbs and before i was pregnant i only weighed 110 lbs. My doctor is telling me the same thing that my baby is small and i'm getting a sonogram in a couple of weeks... but i just talked to one of my friends who experienced the same thing when she was pregnant and her baby was born almost weighing 9 lbs so try not to worry about it the baby will be fine.

i only put on just over a stone but i am very petite (sz 6) but i had a tiny tummy and when i had a scan at 36wks i was told that there wasn't a lot of 'water' around the baby and that was probably why! my son was born 2 days later and was only 5lb so i dont know what happened there either but my boy was perfectly healthy and in proportion, just tiny, he is 2 now and healthy and clever.
i wouldnt worry too much, the pros would have picked up on something by now!!
take care and best wishes

see, im perfect size (me bump that is) for 32 weeks, yet i've only but on about 15lbs. i wouldn't worry too much, i'm not being sent 4 a scan as the midwife said every1's pregnancy is different, some people just tend 2 hav less weight gain than others, or smaller babies.
gd luck,

i do no longer understand what your indicators are - i actually think of antibiotics are no longer mandatory unavoidably with strep. I even have, for some years, by employing Homeopathy, taken care of my infants with that condition devoid of antibiotics ! all of them recovered. don't get an IV once you're labouring - it somewhat is makes it very awkward for you. Is there some thing on your wellbeing care expert's shelf different than antibiotics for you ? There could have been in the process the time of the British Empire, and that's grow to be a protracted time in the past... perhaps you need to do the attempt back - in specific situations, strep. of that variety is already residing on the Lab attempt-tube. it fairly is amazingly a threat. besides, an antibiotic scientific care will no longer help your weight undertaking. be conscious: with reference to the message following mine: a strep. is a strep. is a strep. the undertaking right it is one in each and every of scientific care. Antibiotics are no longer the only right situation right here. The wellbeing care expert has no awareness of an option scientific care. Neither does my next commentator. i wish, my expensive Commentator, that your consequences come back adverse, or you would be interior a similar footwear. Please do ask your rfile, what could he prescribed for that reason, for a girl allergic to antibiotics ? They exist those women - what is going to he do for them ? no longer something ? Will "no longer something" suffice ? one extra situation, for the reason which you "hate people who do no longer understand what they're speaking approximately", why do no longer you ask your rfile. no count number if he could be arranged to place in writing down and sign here assertion : " I solemnly declare that each and one and all group B strep attempt consequences, are continuously infallible and on no account vulnerable to Laboratory an infection."

i had this problem with my daughter, my placenta stopped working, so my daughter wasn't growing. after i went to the doctors they made an appointment for a scan, then i had to go into hospital to be induced i was 36 weeks when i was induced, so if that is the problem you'll probably have to do the same thing. good luck.
