My wife and I will be pulling our 5th wheel to Skagway, Ak on the 10th of April. We will be working for a bus tour company until Oct 1. I would like as much information as possible. http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-922jLw41dKhpnYmLzt4AEQ--;_ylt=AnTccgzK87njItMxoUnrWb60AOJ3?cq=1

Well traveling the date you have chosen will be a bit of an adventure. Winter in the North doesn't go away as fast as some would like.

Prepare for Snow, and Cold! Temperatures as you travel North on the Alaska Highway, can dip below 0, and it can snow a ton with spring storms, especially around Summit lake in the "Steamboat".

Pack chains for the truck, but my advice is to hunker down and wait out the storm by a day or two and let the Canadian highway department, plow and sand ahead of you.

Keep the trailer winterized! You can use bottled water and an empty 5 gallon pail to drain the sink in. Bio friendly anti-freeze makes the toilet usable.

You have a few passes to contend with but nothing like what you have in Idaho. Non the less make sure you fuel at every major town, and then some. They are about 300 miles apart, but services are available be ween (although limited in winter).

Keep your Milepost handy (travel guide to the highway), and enjoy the trip. It is my favorite drive.

See you in Skagway... Look for a BIG white bus with totem poles on the side says: John Hall's Alaska.

I am assuming you are already aware of the availability, but just in case, an alternative to driving through Canada to Skagway, would be to drive to Bellingham, WA and take the Alaska Ferry to Skagway. It is a very popular mode of travel for people who live in Alaska summers and the continental states in winter.

Reservations recommended.

Have fun! Sounds wonderful!!!
