take it to a shop to get it polished and lacqued, if you paint it it will look real ghetto!

It depends on what was used on the guitar originally. If it's an acoustic guitar, unless it's bad, you might wish to just leave it.
Electric guitars use a variety of paints, from enamel to epoxy. Check with the manufacturer and see what they recommend.

The correct answer is NOT to try to do this yourself; go to your local music/guitar store and show it to them...they will either have or know of a "Luthier" (guitar repair expert) that can properly repair the area with the proper materials.

Please don't attempt to fix this yourself! I've seen so many guitars where somebody inexperienced has tried to repaint chipped areas. Take it to your local luthier! They will be able to drop fill it so nicely, you won't be able to tell it ever happened.
