You can actually have them change the name that is displayed when you call someone. I know that it can be done by T-Mobile, Sprint, and Cingular at Sprint they just change your name in RMS for what will show, a buddy had his phone on his girlfriends account and the account remained in her name but his number showed up as his business name after that, when they switched to T-Mobile we did it for him their as well. When they had Cingular it was like that as well, the only company I am not sure of is Verizon.

Caller Id for my cell phone:
1) If the name displayed is actually you, then you can dial *67 then dial the number and that will block your name from being displayed.
2) If the name displayed is someone different than you, you need to call your cell phone carrier and have them update the"switch". The switch is what hauses all your identification when outbound calls are routed.
3) You can call your cell phone provider and state that you do not want your name displayed. That is called privacy block. There may be a slight charge for that service.
4) If the cell displays your name and you are just wanting to change the name for what ever reason - that one is almost impossible to do. Reason being, is so many people would like their names to display as a business name or something bad.

If you store the name in your address book, that that name should show up instead of the number/caller ID, i.e. the cell phone should resolve it.

You can not change the name.
This name is on your account and unless you change the account you cannot change it on the caller ID
