The Boston Celtics have been a bad team or not terribly successful team since the retirement of Larry Bird. It seems srtrange that one of their most successful former players, who has coached other teams to more than 1000 victories, has never coached the team he played on. Why is that?

I agree with the tradition aspect of the above guys comment. Don Nelson is a run and gunner coach who completely ignores defense. As you know, defense is a blue collar type mentality and few places besides Boston (Chicago,Philly, Pittsburgh) have that mindset.

I think we actually REALLY need to return to the old school mentality of the organization that we last saw with the Bird teams. This includes getting rid of the cheerleaders which is the most disappointing thing to happen to the Celtics since losing out on Tim Duncan.

We need to have a hard nosed coach back in the saddle which is what I liked in Jim O'Brien so much. Doc is all wrong for this team. He never will understand the Boston mentality. He belongs in LA. We are the furthest thing from the Lakers you can possibly get.
