No. The chemicals in cigs can cause a lot of birth-related problems. You really should quit completely.

No amount of cigarettes is "safe" for you, let alone the baby you are carrying. Having said that it is good that you have made this effort and you should at least get some credit for that.
Second hand smoke and smoking during pregnancy contributes to a number of birth defects, additionally children who are exposed to second hand smoke in the home will have a number of lung capacity, and breathing issues.
How do I know, I still suffer a great deal from having a father who smoked in the home. I do not blame him, he was doing that before it was known the damage which could be done.
As soon as he heard he quit smoking around us kids.

look i'm going to give you an answer that can understand your pain. you already know that smoking is not good for you or the baby but no one knows what your going through when sometimes a cigarette is just what you need to carry out the rest of your pregnancy. smoking a pack is very harsh and it's good you dropped down before too late. yes there are risks that you take every puff you take but there also can be a chance you child can come out healthy. if you can stop all the better if not pray that all is well when born. i smoked during 3 of mine and they all came out at least 7-8 lbs. healthy

So.....for 7 months of your pregnancy you smoked a pack a day and now you've cut down to 5? I'm not sure how much damage you've done already or if you are helping at this point. I'm sure cutting back any would be helpful. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor. I don't think any amount of smoking is safe when you are pregnant.

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I was a smoker before I was pregnant. I smoked during because I didn't know. When I found out I was pregnant I did smoke LESS and then after about a couple weeks I quit. I know that it is hard but you have to look at it as a sacrifice. When you become a parent you have to make A LOT of them so just look at this as your first test. That's what I did. I know that it will be very hard but you can do it! Trust me if I can do it anybody can do it!!! Good Luck and Congrats!!

No will tell you it is safe. what i will tell you is great job keep working on it you should not smoke at all. I know its hard i smoke. 5 is definatly better the 10 but 0 is better than 5. My friend had an oops baby and smoked a pack a say for the 1st 3 months cause she did not know she was pg. Here doc. told her it would be harder for the baby if she went cold turkey and told her to back off on them gradually like you are but she really needed to take it to 0. Good Luck keep working on it.

Absolutely! My friend smoked between 2-3 packs a day throughout her whole pregnancy. Her kids are all between 16 and 23 now. And even though two are in jail and the other two just got out, that has nothing to do with her smoking.

Everyone has their own opinions on this. I was a smoker, I smoked about a half a pack a day, when I found out I was pregnant, the doctor told me to stop. I tried, I got very sick, the doctor said it was causing to much stress to the baby, and told me to slow down, I smoked 5 -6 a day and my baby was fine. My aunt smoked a lot, not sure how much in a day, but way more then 5 or 6, and all her babies were fine. They say not to smoke but its not proven that smoking causes problems.

Well I don't think by asking this question you should be attacked!!!! You should speak to your doctor about using nicotine gum or the patch to quit. 5 cigs is better than a pack and unfortunately many people continue to smoke when pregnant it is not easy to quit even when you know it is harmful to yourself and your baby. I'm sure you baby will be just fine!!!!! Talk to your doctor about alternatives!!!

No! You need to quit cold turkey immediately. There is NO safe amount of cigerettes when pregnant...you are harming your baby and it may cause them lifelong problems. I know it sucks and is hard for you but it's going to be a lot harder if you have a special needs kid. Trust me.....I have a special needs child, and didn't smoke. That's hard enough. My sister smoked and quit when she found out she was pregnant, I watched how hard it was for her but just do it. It's only a few days.....compared to what could be a lifetime of problems. Your baby breathes everything you do. :(
