Multicellular organisms have several advantages. For one thing, having many
cells means the organism can be bigger than a single celled organism. The
advantages to large size include being able to eat a wider range of food items,
using a greater % of energy for reproduction, and a better ability
to compete for space. Here are some other advantages: relatively less of body
is exposed to external environment, regulation of body fluid concentration and
volume is easier, death of 1 cell does not mean death of the organism,
specialized cells can take care of specific jobs (for example, nerve cells in
the brain have given primates a BIG advantage).
