Going to a psychic can be a good way to get a handle on things going on in your life. You're rarely going to get a checklist of "this is going to happen, this will happen next, you will meet a dark man at the crossroads," and if anyone did make super-specific predictions (or, at the other extreme, statements so vague they could be true for anyone), I'd immediately be suspicious for a scam.
My experience with tarot cards (the only divination method I've used) is that generally you get a decent picture of what's going on in your life right now, what forces are coming into play, what changes are happening, and where you need to concentrate your energy to get the results you want. A good time to get a reading done is when you're either considering making a big change, or when things are a little up in the air and you need some direction.
And sometimes, you won't get answers any different than what you could have told yourself - because a lot of "fortunetelling" is just intuition. The difference is, usually you're not telling yourself. (Example: a friend, the one who taught me to read cards, emailed me a spread once that he'd done for himself, saying "I can't make heads or tails of it! It doesn't seem to mean anything! Can you interpret anything out of this?" Honey, a blind two-year-old with brain damage could have interpreted those cards; I couldn't have put together a spread with a more pointed message if I'd gone through the deck and chosen the cards individually. It's just that he was so close to the problem that even with the cards as a tool, he couldn't see it even when it was staring him in the face.)
That being said, though, there is something in it. Take the above example. I hadn't talked to this guy in a couple weeks, didn't know what was going on in his life. First thing I said to him after interpreting the cards was, "So, who's this girl you're pining after, and why is she a disaster waiting to happen?" Floored him, because I was right. So sometimes whatever method you're using will pick up on stuff that you couldn't have known any other way, and any explanation I could give for it would sound lame. All I know is that yes, it works.
There are a lot of charlatans out there, though. Watch out for anyone too flashy, or too "spooky," anyone trying to scare you with dire predictions or butter you up with flattery, anyone with a slick, funny patter that's too quick and rhythmic for you to catch that content is essentially nil. Unless of course you're just going in for entertainment, in which case find the most shameless fraud out there and enjoy the show!

Yes, a few times and a few different ones. Most were so full of broad generalizations the reading could have been about anyone. Others just told me what I wanted to hear. (For example, one told me I'd have two children, a boy and a girl within a year of each other, two years from then. This was 3 years ago. I received the sad news from a few doctors last year that children will never be possible. So much for that reading.
Two others, in particular, told me specifics about things they couldn't possibly have known from my past, that I'd never told anyone. I was floored. Another told me to be careful about letting my husband buy a red car. She wasn't sure herself why this was important at the time. A couple years ago we were in the market for a second car after our old one's engine gave out. We went to a dealership and found a great deal. It wasn't until his accident last April that it hit me. His new car was red.
There's a big difference between good readings and bad ones. The best thing you can do is ask specific questions to test ability. Be suspicious if they tell you too much, be suspicious if they tell you too little. But, most of all, realize that only you have the ability to change or carry out your life. Use the reading as advice, entertainment, or a guide only, and not as written word of what will or must happen.

i remember when i was about 8, this woman told my mom that i will have a hard time in school. My mom said, "There is no way.. my daughter is a straight a student"
then she said, "but she will do something incredible and memorable. She will be working for the government and helping a lot of people. She has fame in her name"
when i got into college.. i was in computer science.. i didn't pay attention due to a guy i was in love with... and i couldn't feel the love for cs... i was bored of life and hated everything..
graduated.. and hated what i was doing.. so i went back, and decided i'd do medicine.
Right now i've just got appointed to work for a project in a third world country....it's a gvt based program...
i'm not famous.. that's the only thing that did not come true.

I have been to 2 psychics who used Tarot cards to read my future. Both of them have been right on the money with most of everything that was going on in my life. I gave them no indication of what I was thinking or what kind of reading I was anticipating. I barely said anything during the time and let them tell me what was going on. I felt this would be the most honest and unbiased way to get an accurate reading. I thought it was extremely interesting and would recommend it in a heart beat.
As for the "authentic" psychics, I do believe they are out there. Yet I think their practices are much more personal and private than those who advertise it on tv.

i don't believe in a humans ability to see the future without the aid of some outside acting force. that being said, i was talked into visiting a physic's office once by a girlfriend & when we arrived he was not in, a police officer stated he may be down the hall watching a performance but he would be happy to help us if we went over there. I just stated " Well honey, if he's a true physic, he'll know we are looking for him & he can come find us." the officer almost fell down laughing.

I went and saw a physic last year. She told me that someone was harassing me about some pictures that they had taken of me, she was 100% right! Then she started all this mumbo-jumbo about how if I paid her $150 she could create some kind of potion that would make the person stop harassing me. I didn't fall for that crap! She went on to tell me more things about my past/future, some of it was true and some of it was bull. I paid $50 for the session and it satisfied my curiosity about psychics.

Hi!
I used to have a guy that would come to my home and do my hair. Then one day in conversation he told me that he read tarot cards. That he did parties and such. So while I was waiting for my hair to process, he read my cards. He used fairy cards. Anyhow he asked me if I was planning on getting married. I said NO! He said are you sure? I was very sure.
Well, now I will tell you much to my surprise 2 months later my boyfriend asked me to marry him. So he was right.
I went to one before in Alabama, and she told me I was unhappily married and that I had two kids my son was older than my daughter. She told me other things that were very personal. But she was right. I also went to one who asked me to bring coffee and sugar back and she would bury it underground for prosperity, but when my friend and I left we found out she told us both the same thing. So be careful of the people with the flashing palm reading signs. Both of the physics that were right to me were not those type of people. They weren't advertised or anything, it just happened that I met them.
But even so, I thought it was just for fun anyhow!

my bf's mom has gone a couple times and she told me that it depends on the person you go to. She goes to the same man because he seems like the real thing. She told me to bring a recorder because you miss some of the things thay say because your thinking so much. She also told me that alot of the things won't make since or seem unrelated but eventually they'll all click in your mind.

i have gone to a spiritual reader. (big difference) she was right about everything she told me and it all happened within 6 months (got a new job, love interest, and she told me my ex was gonna have a rough time due to stuff he did to me). i found out later last yr that his car was stolen, before it got stolen girls were busten his windows out and alot of mess was going on with him. i didn't have to tell my reader anything! she told me everything that i already knew was going on in my life (without me mentioning anything) and let me know what was gonna happen. she also did not use tarrot cards. i see her only when im down or really need to know something otherwise i dont want to hear nothing i dont want to know! be careful because there are alot of scam artist that will just ask u questions and run off on what u say. dont say anything and thats how u will know if they are truely gifted in helping u. goodluck :-)

I went to one about two weeks ago, and it is amazing how right they can be... If they don't end up being scammers. It's best to make sure before starting. But yes, it is unexplainable but true... One of the things she said actually came true only a day later!!
