10%?! It's not a restaurant! Give the driver a pound - he'll be satisfied with that.
Better than a tip they often appreciate a conversation... most folks sit chatting on their mobiles; it must do their heads in.

Assuming it's a black cab ("Hackney Carriage") driver, it's customary to offer a 10% tip (rounded to the next 50p or £1).

At the end of the day, your driver will have spent around 2 to 3 years undertaking "The Knowledge", proving that they *know* London well enough to be a good taxi driver.

For minicabs (more properly "Private Hire Vehicles"), it's usual not to tip.

It depends on how they drive. If they take the quickest route, and try to use shortcuts to avoid traffic, etc, then bung them an extra couple of quid. However, some cab drivers insist on driving at 20mph in 30mph zones, even when the road ahead is clear, and slow down when approaching green traffic lights in the hope they'll change just to keep the meter ticking. These drivers get nothing from me.

When I travel to Europe, I usually tip 10%. A little more for service that is very well done.

I tend to tip up to the nearest pound if the pence figure is 50 or below. If it's over 50p then I round up to the pound and add an extra 50p.

But don't feel obliged to tip unless you feel they provided a good service!

Only tip if you feel they have been nice/kind/helpful/reliable etc and you are happy with their service... even then don't tip more than a couple of pounds.......... they're making a bloody fortune out of us as it is.

The fare is sufficient. You don't need to give anything extra.
