Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation is recommended for almost all injuries. Ice the are for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for about the next hour or 2. This should help keep the swelling down. Stay off the foot. You do not want to tear the achilles tendon. That is very painful. However, I do believe that you should go see a doctor. It's important to know what grade sprain you have, so you can treat it in the best possible way.

Trust me on this I didn't listen and I ended up having surgery. Stay off of it! No running no jumping and as little walking as possible. This will start to feel better, but it is still damaged. It may takes months to heal all the way. I sprained mine 3 times in about 4 months and then had to have reconstructive surgery all because it "felt" better.

10 minutes of ice to get the swelling down, you can buy an ice pack at any drug store or make your own , followed by 10 minutes of heat, and alternate. The doctor told him not to take muscle relaxers, because they give you a false feeling of healing and you re-injure the ankle. If you are in pain you can take aleve, ibuprofen or Tylenol.
also buying a support for your ankle will help not to re-injure it.
Stay off your foot for a couple of days, you have to give time for the injury to heal.

What did the doctor tell you to do?

I mean, if you didn't go to the doctor, how do you know WHAT injury you have?

Go be seen.
