The role transition from student nurse to qualified nurse has always been highlighted as a stressful period of nurses’ life (Charnley 1999). Kramer (1974 cited by Charnley 1999) described the transition from student nurse to staff nurse as a reality shock when the newly qualified nurses realise that they are not prepared for the new role despite of the training they have had for several years.

Kramer (1974, cited by...) (insert comma after 1974)
reality shock - should probably be put in quotation marks.
not prepared for their new role

despite the training OR in spite of the training NOT despite of the training

and not "have had for several years", it should be "despite the several years of training they have had"
