I am taking online classes at a local college and need to download word doc files. Our new IT guy at work has decided to block it and Yahoo Music player with Watchguard. I know there has got to be a way around this. I just need to be able to print or view these word documents. I am currently using IE 6.0. Please help. How can I get around this?

I'm an IT Systems Administrator and have Watchguard Firebox at work as well. There's no way around it, we (administrators) can block anything and everything we want and can even disable the use of proxies to get around it. Talk to your IT department and mention that you are taking courses at a local college and tell them you need to download documents for it. They can add the url/IP address to an exception list. Good luck convincing them to unblock yahoo music though.

There is no way around. I would ask the IT guy for permission to access ONLY the site where you need to get the doc files from, making sure to explain to him the purpose. As for Music Player, sorry. There's a reason it's blocked (it's called bandwidth).

The best way is to ask the IT guy why it was blocked. And if you show them why you need access, or better yet, your prof then you will have a much better chance of getting the files that you need. Cheers

Are you trying to use yahoo music or print the documents? if its just the documents then there is no reason why your IT department would block it.. I would complain about it, if you are not bothered enough then email those documents to email client such as gmail and in gmail you can open the documents as html and from there you can print them. other than that Sonic firewalls is quite strong..... you cant hack them.... easily....
