I have heard of two zoos in/near Seattle: Woodland Park Zoo and Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. I'd like to visit a zoo over the weekend, but I don't know which is better. (I've never been to either.) Which is larger? has more animals? better exhibits? Any other information? Thanks!

Actually, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is smaller than Woodland Park.

PDZA is focused more on animals of the Pacific Rim where Woodland Park has animals from all over the world. The aquariums at PDZA are all cold water and feature aquatic life found primarly along the western coast of the US.

As for better exhibits...It's a toss up to me, I like them both.

PDZA has many other parks and such near it. To get to the zoo you must drive through the PD Park which features a Japanese Pagdoa, Rose Gardens and a pond with waterfall. You can also take the 5 Mile Drive, a senic drive through tall trees and lush natural landsacapes. Access to Owens Beach is also on the way to the entrance to the zoo. Keep in mind that the beach is not what most people think of as a beach. There is sand and water, but you won't find huge waves. Owens Beach is on the Puget Sound (which isn't a sound at all, but rather a fjord) and not on the ocean.

Woodland Park Zoo is also located near a park, also featuring a rose garden. I don't get to Woodland Park often, but it is a great zoo. There is a fee for parking at WPZ, however, parking is free at PDZA.
