I've heard conflicting information about when a woman is most likely to become pregnant. Is it 2 weeks after your period begins or immediately after your period stops?(Assuming you have regular cycles {about 28 days} & your period lasts about 5 days).

My last period began Mar 4 & ended Mar 8. On Mar 12, I began having lower abdominal pains (as I usually do when I'm ovulating). On the 13 & 14, I had the clear cervical mucus consistent with ovulation. According to ovulation calenders, I won't be ovulating until around the 17, but if I've already had cm, doesnt that mean I've already ovulated?? And if I did ovulate around the 13 or 14, would that mean I was most fertile right after my period ended?

Most women ovulate 14 days before the onset of their next expected period. That said, I am one of those people who don't follow those rules. I ovulate on day 9. Could be a similar situation with you. You won't know for sure until you either buy an ovulation monitor, use disposable ovulation sticks or become familiar with your cervical mucus. Good luck honey.

It's neither. It's "whenever you ovulate" and ovulation happens for most people between ten and sixteen days before menstruation. If you've got a 28 day cycle, day 1 is the first day of real bleeding, not just spotting, and ovulation will usually happen some time between day 12 and day 18. If your cycle is usually 35 days, ovulation generally happens between day 19 and day 25. Ovulation usually happens the same number of days before menstruation each month, so that if you've usually got a 28 day cycle, and a ten 12 day luteal phase (the time between ovulation and menstruation) it will still usually be 12 days, even if your period comes late because of stress or illness or some other cause.

Charting your cycles is a good way to learn about your fertile days-you can learn more about charting from the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, or the website Fertilityfriend.com. Charting your cycle involves taking your temperature first thing when you wake up, every day at the same time each day using a basal body thermometer, and observing other fertility signs-cervical position and texture (it moves higher in the vagina, and becomes softer and opens as you approach ovulation), cervical mucous (stretchy egg white mucous indicates fertile cervical mucous.) You may want to combine cycle charting with ovulation predictor kits (available from most drugstores with the pregnancy tests) to help tie everything together. OPKs use a hormone (LH) present in urine that spikes just before ovulation.

I agree with 12 to 20 days after your period starts. Most women don't have a regular clockwork 28 day cycle. Some will ovulate sooner, while others will ovulate later. Count to day 12 and they start trying 5 days before the 12th day of your cycle, since sperm can live 5 days. That way you cover all your bases. Good luck.

On an average 28 day cycle a woman usually ovulates on day 14. Start counting the first day of menstrual flow as day one. You should also notice changes in your cervical mucus it will become clear, stretchy and looks almost like egg whites. This is your most fertile period.

You should start counting at the first day of your last period. Most women ovulate around day 14 of there cycle...so that would be 14 days since the first day of your last period. You should allow three days before day14 and three days after and consider that your most fertile time, try and time sex so that you are having it before you ovulate because sperm can live for several days inside of you and wait for an egg. Good Luck :-)

Most women ovulate between day 12 and day 20 of their cycle. But it's different for every woman. If you're trying to get pregnant I would start having sex on day 10 and try every day or every other day until day 22. good luck to you!

Generally it is the first half of the cycle that fluctuates among women. The second half (luteal phase) is about 14 days long. So typically you ovulate 14 days before you get your period.

Hope that helps.
