My friend says it hurts really bad, and someone else told me she had it done with all 3 of her kids and it didn't hurt. So what is it really like? Im trying to decide if i should have it done at my next apt. next week (38wks.) or not.

Why would you want to? At 38 weeks your baby is probably not ready to come out, and stripping your membranes could increase your risk of infection. I'm not even sure why a doctor would offer to do this.

Every cervical exam hurts me a little bit, but stripping my membranes didn't really feel any different, just a like a slightly longer lasting exam. The doctor did warn me that it would hurt, but he also seemed more gentle than the other ones I've previously had and that may have helped. Maybe judge for yourself how gentle your doctor is?

I had mine done and I'm a small person I'm only 105pds and I was also 38 weeks preg. when my dr. did mine to make me go into labor a bit early. Guess what??? It didn't work. They had to break my water the next day. But, don't worry It won't hurt you. You do feel something inside but, nothing like your going to feel after your water breaks. Ok, I'll try not to scare you to bad about labor. I'm sure your a strong woman because anybody that is going to have a baby is. so, I'm sure that you will be fine when they do strip them. Don't worry! It won't hurt. Good Luck to you and your new baby!

Not painful for me but you know that wierd feeling you might get during or after an exam when they scrape a little to hard. It is that same scraping type feeling. A bit uncomfortable but not painful. There was a little bit of bleeding though (nothing wrong the Dr told me to expect it)

I had it done twice, and it did not hurt at all. They do it during a contraction, so you are in a lot of pain already. I felt more discomfort from the doctor checking how dialated I was than from getting my water broke. I would definetly reccommend it. It really speeds labor along...or atleast it did for me.

Doesn't really hurt, just uncomfortable. Didn't work for me, though.
