My boss has asked me to look up research information (internet sources) for his daughters project in school. He even went as far as to tell me to make sure and hightlight the important information. Do you think I am being unreasonable being so angry about this? Should I look for a new job?

His daughter is a senior in highschool. I hate my job, my boss is a sexist asshole.

Here's an idea. Go to the web and download and print a paper from one of those term paper sites. Tell your boss you're going to the library for research (after all, we all know just because its on the internet doesn't necessarily mean its fact) and enjoy your day off. When the kid gets an F for plagarism, act shocked and say "it was my understanding you wanted the best resource, I didn't intend for your child to claim credit for work they didn't do." If your boss has a problem with that innocently say you're willing to explain to the teacher how you were asked to do the child's work, and there was obviously a mix-up--obviously the boss won't want to confess to the teacher his involvement.

As far as your job goes. You say you hate it, so there really is no question. Maybe this is the impetus you need to move on. When you leave, request an exit interview with HR. Officially say nothing but good things, unofficially let an HR person know why you're leaving.

It depends on what your job description is as to whether he's being unreasonable. If you're the comptroller of the company, it's a little weird. If you're his secretary/assistant, it's probably fine and he probably just trusts you to help him help his daughter. He might not know how to research on the internet but still wants to be a hero for his kid. If you have the time, it sounds like a fun change of pace. If you're swamped with other projects that are actually work related, you need to talk to him.

As far as looking for a new job, that all depends on how much you like this one. If you're considering it just because he asked you to do some research for his kid, that's a little extreme, though I don't think you'd be asking if he treated you well otherwise.

Good luck.

It depends on you and how much you like your job. If this is a small thing he is asking you to do in an overall nice job, I would let it go. If he is nice and reasonable, you might think of a nice way to tell him that you would prefer not to do this. I bought cigarettes for my boss, and I hate that in general, but it gave me a chance to go outside, so I dealt with it.
If you want to quit, I'm sure there are other reasons as well.

Depends on how much you are getting paid. Its ok to look for another job. Make sure it is secured before you leave your current one. Also, don't burn bridges. Don't let your boss know the reason you are leaving if you do. You never know when you might need a favor from him. (Or your old job back.)

Unless you are his personal assistant (and even then, I would be very leery about this), I'm sure he's only using you. His daughter probably asked for help, and instead of researching for her, or telling her to do her own homework, he's dumping it on someone else. Namely you.

Tell him that it is not in your job description to do schoolwork for his daughter, and if you feel very strongly about it and he insists that you do it, I say quit. Look for a new job where they don't use you for children's homework. You have a good reason to quit, and anyone who looks down on you for it would be stupid.

Wow, thats pretty unbeliveable. I personally have a short fuse, but depending on the situation. Does this happen all the time? If so, then yeah put everything on the line and tell him how you feel and if he doesn't make a change go somewhere else where your skills can be used properly. If this is a one time ordeal, depending on how much you like your job I would probably let it slide.

If other then that, do you like your job? You may feel put out but he's just utilizing the resource he has at hand, you.

That's what managers do. Realize it's personal and has nothing to do with work but your are solving his problem and releasing him to preform other more pressing duties.

However, if you feel used find your self another job.

sounds like you don't have a good relationship anyway,i would document it and make sure that you have proof to back it up.if its you who is the problem and just making a mountain out of a mole hill then just move on and don't let it get to you and just don't do it,if its him being a jerk then report it to his supervisor ,but make sure you have your ducks in a row.. the reason i say this too is because we all have done things at work that is not work related for friends ourselves etc..so set back put it into perspective ..besides you are on here asking this question so you aren't working ,,see what i mean, just giving you my perspective not trying to be mean here .good luck

I think you should look for a new job. Hand your notice to him and inform him that his daughter is a big girl and will never learn anything if someone else does it for her. You certainly will not be the one that is doing it for her....Stand up for your self and that girl.......

I would tell your boss that you are working on job related things and simply do not have the time to do it.
