I'm right there with ya! I just had a terrible cold and this was one of my primary questions. I'm 27 weeks and I try to stay medicine free for the baby but needed relief from my cold. I talked to my doctor. They said I can use cough drops that are menthol free. I got some Halls Breezers they contain pectin (a fruit derivative) instead of menthol. They also said I could use vick's vapo rub for the menthol effect but shouldn't ingest it (through cough drops).
On your other question- I don't think you can take Tylenol PM. I'm not 100% sure of course, but I think the sleep aid in it (Diphenhydramine HCl) could be harmful when pregnant. Here's what Web MD. has to say about it "This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication.
This drug passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this medication. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding."
It can be very tricky deciphering what meds are ok to take during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor just to be sure. Hope this info helps!
Also- just read someone elses comment about taking Ricola or Halls Sugar Free- be careful with these because herbal cough drops like Ricola can contain harmful ingredients-some actually bring on contractions. Also-Sugar free drops often contain artificial sweetners which are not recommended for use in pregnancy.

Halls are the best choice if you have a cough. If you don't have a cough, there other other better choices. The Menthol-eucalyptus is hard on the voice box and an ENT would recommend something else. Just call your docs office and ask them what you should choose.

Yes, you can do cough drops. But may I suggest that you get either Ricola or Halls Sugar Free. They are better for you and your baby that loading up on sugar.
Tylenol P.M. I would say no unless your OBGYN says it is OK. You do not want to make the baby sluggish and you have to really watch what you put into your system. Better safe than sorry later.
Congratulations and good luck.
