Some people just embrace hype so easily. Russians were always "human too" from my point of view.
Nicely put question.

One was as bad as the other.

Its the poor countries that got caught in the middle that I feel sorry for - Korea, Vietnam, Angola, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Cuba and various countries in South and Central America. The USA and USSR (also China in a more limited capacity) had a major role in the strife and upheaval in all of all those countries during the cold war.

The C I A put the former K G B and our MI5 and MI6 in the shade as far as dirty tricks go, and they are still at it although the Soviet Union is no more.
We were told that the C I A was created to watch the S U so why are they still in existence?

Absolutely not. Have you examined the tactics and backers? US foriegn policy: support a US friendly strongarm. Soviet foriegn policy: Tanks roll into Romania, Hungary and Czech, and support a Soviet friendly strongarm. Pol Pot, Castro, Greek Civil War ELAS, RAF terrorist attacks in W Germany, the Jongs in N. Korea, even Khomeni had KGB handlers.

No. They've just changed their stripes. Remember , Putin used to be in the KGB. Also, consider that they have killed several people trying to report their bad behavior, at least one in the U.S. That kind of stuff didn't happen during the cold war, at least not publicly.

Ah I love the Russians even when they were the Soviets.

I miss the Cold War...I really do. It was a simplier time with much less terrorism since 2 superpowers would hunt you down if you f'd up...people knew where they stood..and everyone was reasonably sure the nukes were safe and under control

The soviets were never evil. They were just people. Certainly there were evil people among them and certainly there are evil people here in the US.

Anyone who is still rethinking their cold war beliefs must have been asleep for the last thirty years.

The US government was not particularly dirty during the Cold War. But under Bush the Younger they have behaved far worse than the Soviets ever did.

Russia isn't any more evil then than now. on the other hand the US (where I live) has always lied to us and hid stuff from us. I can't believe GW was re-elected, people here are just F_ING IDIOTS. I LOVE my country, but I FEAR my government. but I freely exercise the right to bear arms!
