I have a Brother 7820N and Windows XP. I connect to the Brother via ethernet. Norton Internet Security Firewall is preventing me from using the printer for printing and scanning; I have to turn off the firewall to use the Brother. How do I configure the firewall so it doesn't have to stay off? I have already configured the IP address or the Brother as trusted. There must be something else I need to configure. Please help!

Please note - as stated, I have already added the printer's IP address as "safe / trusted" in the firewall configuration. Disconnecting from the internet isn't an option so I need to configure the firewall properly. What am I missing?

I would happily ditch Norton's firewall - but I need a replacement since I have a laptop that I use at various offices and public places - I can't just rely on the router's firewall.

all firewalls (dont use nortons) have an allow list or options, you shouldn't have to turn it off. windows firewall has options also. advise if you do have to turn it off, go off line when useing the printer, you'll be safe.

Ditch Norton's firewall, it causes nothing but trouble and difficulty when most modern routers come with a firewall to begin with.

they're the two firewalls - all a firewall does is block any desktops that attempt to connect with you. wheather you employ norton or abode windows it doesnt count number they the two do a similar factor. inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, norton makes use of extra CPU ability.

you can go into the norton firewall properties and add your IP addresses range or each IP address on your network into the trusted list... all the best..
