Great catch..shows athletic ability and what the player is made of...gamer. I am a HUGE Yankees fan and when Melky Cabrera robbed Manny of a HR,it was priceless. Johnny Damon's reaction was so awesome..it was like something out of the postseason. I have to say that Manny's reaction was also priceless....as disappointed as he was and the whole "Manny being Manny" thing, you knew he knew the kid made a spectacular play. Plays like that are thrilling and can often prove to be the turning points of the game. HRs,usually you can tell right off the bat that they're gone. The plays are loaded with supense. Even when the other team makes a great play,I still can appreciate it. HRs are no longer that impressive especially since the ball has been juiced up over time and so are some of the players who hit them. Juiced up players do not have the agility and quickness to make those great plays.

I'd say a great catch takes more skill and is more exciting to watch.
All home runs look practically the same, and anybody can power a ball over the wall at the right moment...

On equal terms, say both plays win a game, then I'd take the catch every time. It shows effort and desire which a homer simply does not. I like home runs, don't get me wrong, but a diving catch to save a game, wow.

That depends. They both thrill me if its my team making the Web Gem or hitting the home run. If the team their playing against does one or the other, I personally like the spectacular catch.

I think a great catch is more exciting than a monster home run, especially in the steroid era that we have been in.

if it comes at the bottom of the ninth or in extra innings i'd say a walk-off homer. if its not den a divin catch or over the wall catch like Gary Mathews Jr. last year.
