AP does not run its own channel but farms out its stories to channels such as the BBC (no mention), CNN (no mention instead report "Violence down amid Baghdad crackdown, Iraq says"), Fox (no mention last reported attack was yesterday), ITV (No mention)! That is mainstream press. The AP hand these stories to the networks and the networks choose what to do with them i.e. not report them.

what surge?

people get bored with iraq, afghanistan, etc

there is a VERy old saying (originated in newsprint journalism)
1 dead brit is worth 5 dead americans or 500 dead asians

(actually, The original didnt say asians, but the term used is not politically corrct and would get this answer removed)

the moral is that people care less about people whose cultures are different from their own... the greater difference in culture, the less the general public care about them

They are reporting most of them. But you have to remember, showing clips of Anna Nicole and interviewing her 4th grade teacher gets more ratings then actual news.
