either Iraq becomes the 51st state, or we get the oil.
In reality there is no real definition of what victory is in this war, that is what the biggest problem is there is no clear definition of success, unless you believe the flowering of democracy in the middle east which is a load of crap.
Or that by killing them all that, that prevents thousands of Iraqis from swimmiing over to the US to bomb and kill us, which is just as improbable.
At this point victory would be the US getting out of a combat role and the majoritty of our troops coming home, and the country of Iraq dividing into 3 separate countries. (remmeber iraq is not that old. Paul Newman is older than the country Iraq.
If we could get out, and the violence doesn't escalate, at this point that would be victory. Which is quite sad considering the lofty goals this president brought us to war with.
There is no real victory here, only the concession that we will leave and americans will stop dying. With our troops gone, so too will leave the majority of reporters and news stories will start to dwindle, and that is the end of the war for Americans while the country we broke will still struggle to find an identity and govern itself, or try to.
Basically for americans to win, is us not turning this into a bigger war before 2008 when we get a new president, so they can finally end this pointless war.

IF we have the stomach to stick it out and win it (which CAN be done), we would have really exorcise the ghost of Viet Nam, a war we lost because we fought ourselves instead of fighting together the enemy, and in the end ran like cowards away from there, allowing the commies to take over the country and then the "Killing Fields" massacre "next door" in Cambodia where 3 million people were killed by the Khmer Rouge.

A new lip-sickle to do the work of distablising the Iranians of course. After all Saddam became to big for his own boots, the CIA lost control of him and now they need another Lip-sickle in the middle east.

Find someone else to fight. Maybe someone not so tough. I heard that there are still some stoneage tribes that live in the Amazon. I KNOW, for a fact that they have WMD's. I will show you the satellite photos.
