Try booting into safe mode, reboot the computer and lay on the F8 key until you get a menu that asks you if you want to boot normally, or in safe mode.. choose safe mode, if that works your display settings weren't compatible with your monitor/video card, lower them.

I can't give you a direct answer to this one. But I can help you to figure this out:
1. Disconnect the power to the monitor and before reconnect make sure that you have plugged the monitor to the computer through the right port.
2. Start the computer and if you come across the same problem, again, leave the computer the way it is (let it boot up) and disconnect the power to the monitor and reconnect it.
3. If that doesn’t solve the problem, then test your video card by using a different monitor. If it works, then you can check the resolution and you know that’s the problem.
4. If that doesn’t work, then you need to remove the video card from the slot and put it back. Probably the pins and connectors of the card may be covered with metal dust (a common problems in old computers. But it still could happen to new ones as well.).
Well, hope this would help. This is that I would do, if I am in a situation like that. One last thing you can do is go to BIOS and check for any errors.

Actually, your video card is the likely culprit. What appears to be happening is once Windows is asking for higher resolution graphics, the card fails to respond. The Windows Boot Screen is only 8 bit, while the Welcome Screen and Desktop are 32 bit. this is a huge difference.

Another possibility is that your video card is a PCI (not AGP or PCI-Express) and windows is defaulting to your onboard adapter. If you have another video port, plug into that. You will need to change the "default adapter" in your display properties to make Windows go to the card. (right click the desktop, select Properties. On the Adapter tab should be an option to select the adapter and make it default).

Sounds like either a Card Issue, or a Signal Issue
I am not clear what exactly is not getting a Signal. It could even be something as basic as a wrong cable. You can go from DVI to Analogue signal easily, but sometimes the DVI port is the first to go.
I would have to know some more to get something more specific... possibilities for problems from what you have said are fairly long

Sometimes have similar problem - just pull out the power cord on the monitor and put it back in again!

Did you recently change resolutions? Sometimes screwy things can happen when you change monitors that can handle different resolutions.

verify with your utility provider (ie: abode windows XP, 2000, and so on.) first, if there is not any answer verify with your cyber web provider. If there continues to be no answer, verify with your laptop producer.
