A physics problem is as follows:
Construct the diagram for the following problem on your paper, then answer the following questions:
OR is a vector representing a force of 20N acting on a point O at an angle of 45 degrees south of east. By construction resolve OR into its horizontal and vertical components, OH and OV.
A. what is the value of angle HOR formed by the force vector OR and its horizontal component OH?
B. what is the magnitude of OH found graphically?
C. what is the calculated magnitude of OH?
D. what is the magnitude of OV?
Please explain how u got the answers and what formulas u used. Thank you.

say north is y+ and east is x+.

OH = 20 cos (45) = 14.1 N (positive because it is east)
OV = -20 sin (45) = -14.1 N (negative because it is south)

A) 45 deg

B) 14.1 N

C) 14.1 N

D) -14.1 N

Its hard to see whithout drawing. But basically you have to form a right triangle with the reflexion of the vector on the x and y axes respectively. You use the definitions of sin and cos to calculate magnitudes.

I can draw it for you on msn msngr if ya like
