It is impossible to have a real period when you are pregnant. However, some women experience bleeding when they are pregnant, which often coincides with when a period would have been due. So they mistake these for periods. They tend to be much lighter than a normal period and don't last for as long.

However, experiencing this is not the norm, and it is not that common to have bleeding to the extent that it could be mistaken for a period.
Remember that for hundreds of years, a missed period was the only way that women could tell they were pregnant. This came about for a reason - because the vast majority of women get no bleeding at all once they are pregnant.

A lot of experts will tell you that you are not supposed to get a normal period during early pregnancy...but I know of a lot of women who got 1 or 2 normal periods...and had no idea they were pregnant. Most of the time though, the "period" is a light pink or brown color and lasts for a shorter time then a normal period. It's like a "spotting". If you think you're pregnant then you should test.

My mother-in-law had two periods when she was actually pregnant with my husband (although she didn't know it).

It does happen. But if the bleeding is very heavy or is accompanied with extreme cramping--you should definitely call the doctor--it can be a sign of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. It the ectopic pregnancy is in your tube--then your tube could burst when the baby starts to grow. Not trying to scare you--just what I read. Even if it is just spotting, I would still mention it to the doctor.

Yes.!!! If you are pregnant & bleeding get it checked out.!!! Bleeding, or spotting, may occur at various times in pregnancy. Although bleeding is alarming, it may or may not be a serious complication. The time of bleeding in the pregnancy, the amount, and whether or not there is pain may vary depending on the cause.
It is important to contact your doctor if you have any bleeding at all through your pregnancy.!!!

I had a period for the first 2 months of my pregnancy and they were normal. I went to see my dr as i was worried, he said that some women can have a period during their pregnancy. If you are worried then you should see your dr just to make you feel more settled. x

It can happen but have no clue as to what they are like. I am guessing they are the same as other wise people would question them and realise that they were pregnant.

If you think you may be pregnant do a test though

You can continue to bleed, but you wouldn't be having a period. The bleeding is usually lighter than a period, and doesn't come on a shedule.
