When shes calling me in England, we have tried 5 , 10 and 20 dollar cards but it only seems to last some 100 minutes at most is there a scam or is there something we're missing?

Does she have a computer that is on the internet? The cheapest way I have found to make international calls is on Skype, which is free computer to computer .. but how I use it is calling computer to phone ... and it is very reasonable. Might be something to look into.

As far as phone cards ... you really have to read the fine print! Sometimes they count time in "units" of like five or ten minutes, so if you talk 11 minutes, you get charged for 20. Another way they get you is charging y ou for 10 or 15 minutes as soon as you make the call ... even if you only talk two minutes. (My numbers are estimates, all are different). Also, most charge a surcharge of so many "units" (and you have to read fine print to see what a "unit" is) when ever you call from a pay phone.

I think a lot of international calling cards are expensive and don't give you many minutes.

Try www.callingcardplus.com. You buy minutes over the Internet and they give you a pin number. You then call a number and enter your pin number, then you can call the number of the person you're trying to call. My dad uses this service to call his mother and brother in Germany. So far it's the cheapest service he's found. I believe it's also called Hello World (or it used to be called that).
