It just sounds ugly, I can't help but think of a big overgrown bully everytime I hear it...what do you guys think?

It is pretty bad. I think we think of a "big overgrown bully" because if you think about it, that's how it is displayed on TV or what not, they name those people the "ugliest" names so we connect the two together and we grow to not like the name. I'm sure way back when it was a beautiful name, but now, it's just not very flattering...just like the name Blanche. I love Golden Girls, but that's just a horrible name too!

Ironically, my grandmother's real name was Bertha and my husband's grandmother was named Bertha. It must have been a popular name during the early l900's. My grandmother, however, ended up with the nickname "Peggy". I have no idea how that came from Bertha. I think Bertha sounds better than the name "Fannie".

Bertha, Hortense, Piper and Ester are pretty much the ugliest girls names ever in my opinion.

It wouldn't be my pick, but that is mostly because I worked at a nursing home in high school and there was a lady named Bertha there. I couldn't let her get behind me cause she was always pinching my butt. Not too cool, Bertha, but I forgive you.

I wouldn't say it's the UGLIEST I'm sure there are worst out there but it definitely wouldn't be a name I would pick.

I don't like any of these names; Bertha, Roberta, Louise, Blanche( golden girls).
