it was a great show until the hiatus. Now it is more than unbearable, it's downright pathetic. has any other show fallen so far so fast?

None that I know of.
BUT
I liked the last two episodes of Lost.
Hopefully it'll keep picking up.
Geeder, people still watch it because we invested 2 1/2 seasons into the mysteries of Lost and don't want those 2 1/2 seasons wasted. Season one rocked, season two was ok but hated the sporadic new episodes, and season three almost jumped the shark. These last two episodes were good though.

Because with a premise like that and the downright unbelieveable storylines, it was only a matter of time before the writers ran out of plausable ideas.
A show like that is definitely not built to last 7-10 seasons.
It seems most of the non cop/lawyer dramas on TV now are meant to be really huge for 1-3 seasons, and then flame out after that time. The plot is verging on the ridiculous, and can't get any better. This will be the last season for Lost.

I do not think that lost has gotten bad. They are exploring each of the characters, answering questions, as well as posing more, and allowing the plot/ storyline to play out. It isn't as mysterious as it once was, which is why I feel people are loosing interest. IT can't be all mystery. They need to resolve things at some point...I still love it!

You are one of few people that thinks it is falling, and all of NBC's shows fall way more quickly than Lost would if it ever actually did fall.

lost is a good show. if so many people hate it then stop watching it and complaining about it. it's pretty simple.
