my boy is six years old and he is going to be playing football this year. I was wondering if anybody knows how good is a 40 yard dash for a six year old. He run it in 9.5.

The time at this age is not so important. I choach kids this age. whats more important is his control and can he think and hit and see the field. at that age he will never be able to out run everyone. he needs to know where he should be and see who is in his way. teach him to hit low and not stop before the hit. If he can do that he will be good at any spot on the field.

Uh, 6 year olds don't need 2 be running a 40 - yard dash. They shouldn't even be playing on a 40 - yard field.

At six years old I think your main concern would be allowing him to play and enjoy the game. Are you trying to mold him at 6?? Let the kid play and enjoy the game before you start putting pressure on him to be the best.. Sounds to me as if he's a product of a parent "wanna be".
Let me tell you a story.. I coached pee wee football (does not make me any kind of expert) but we had one kid who loved the game and was very good for his age.. But his parents were what i call "parent wanna be". In a game he missed a tackle (remember he was like 7 years old) which cost us the game, after the game his dad was making him run hills as a form of punishing him for missing a tackle. The kid finished the year as his parents made him, but never saw a football field again after that year.. The kid had talent, probably could have gone on and been very good if he had just stayed with it, but lost interest fast with parents like that..

So.. just let the kid play and enjoy the game at that age, stop putting demands on him and he'll progress at his own pace...

That makes him a tight end contender at the NFL combine. But if you are timing him in the 40, you may be a little over the top.

Ever heard of Todd Marinovich?

At that age, speed is not a part of the game. He's fine running a 9.5. He'll pick up speed as he gets older.

That is not all that important right now. The most important thing is that he learn proper technique. His body is going to chang so much over the next 10 years it doesn't matter right now. Right now he could be wide receiver material, but sprout into a lineman. What he learns right now will stick him no matter what.

I cant believe it! Its good but almost impossible for an even TINY bit over weight 6-yr old. If he is really slim and really fast then it may be possible. Well I gotta believe you and all those other people just might be SACKS OF ****!
