gum or lozengers, for when the urge to smoke becomes overwhelming; or absolute cold turkey?

It's different for everyone. I have used the patch in the past, and it works quite well except that if you don't use it EXACTLY as stated in the directions, chances are you'll go back to smoking. Also, I have heard that in some cases, even when the directions are followd to a T, former smokers relapse when the patch is all done.

I was a smoker of 7 years, I just recently quit - Cold Turkey. It was hard, but I had two things to help me through. The first being that I did not quit alone. I had someone quit with me and we were support structures for each other. The second thing that helps me is that whenever I think about smoking, or get a craving I tell myself how proud of myself that I am. This helps me refocus why I quit, and how good I'm doing.

Good Luck!

Hate to say it, mate, but cold turkey is undoubtedly the best, quickest, most effective way to kick the habit once and for all. I attempted patches twice, gum twice, and lozenges twice. I was smoking during the period of time I was supposed to be quitting and then after the "medicines" ran out. Nothing.

Then I tried going cold turkey. Suffered through intense cravings for about 3 weeks but am now DONE for good.

Best wishes. It's not easy but it is worth it.

pick a time of when to stop, then chew a big wad of gum. after that gradually chew gum in a satisfactory amount then try and defeat the urge and after you do it for three or four days that's it i hope that works.

The absolute best way is to crumple up the pack of cigarettes and throw them away, then go on with your life.
Difficult? Sure. Everything worthwhile is.
