Diesels only run efficiently when they are at their proper operating temperature, running them cooler will make them run poorly.

A diesel engine's ideal operating temperature is regulated by the thermostat, usually around 180 F.
If the thermostat is removed, the engine could run too cool, depending on the ambient (outside air) temperature.

Expect poorer gas mileage. Diesels run better when they are at peak operating temperature. The engine will take longer to reach peak temps if you remove the thermostat. In some Tropical and desert countries, mechanics sometimes remove the thermostat since their climate is already very hot. The coolant flows better without thermostat constricting it and the hot climate helps bring the engine to peak temps.

Likely to difficult to start in the morning or during cold climate because this is a temperature control valve in the engine of the cooling system.

in town it`ll take much longer to heat up and driving on a trip it will run very cold which will wear your engine more and you will get worse economy. its a short term fix for a broken thermostat but do get one
