My friend is putting together a blog and wants as many reasons he can gather as to why Nascar is not a sport. He asked me to come up with some ideas and the only two I can come up with are:
1. You can't buy any auto racing equipment at a sporting goods store.
2. There is no autoracing in schools, or Jr leagues like little league for baseball.
Note: I've heard the argument that because there is no ball, it's not a sport, however I disagree. Hockey, Track, Wrestling(not the WWE kind), Karate, and a whole mess of Olympic sports all have no ball.

To Disco20, So I suppose you also concider "Dance Dance Revolution" a sport? It meets all of the criteria you've listed above. Or how about the board game "Twister" or even "Pinball"?

maybe the only event that you could be killed if you run onto the playing field.
it's "superbowl" is what starts the season, kind of retarded, just downhill from there.
but...similar to most sports, the urge to cheat is very high. look how many drivers and crews have been reprimanded.
plus, most haven't been model citizens, from fighting after races to drunk driving, they're no better or worse than athletes.

Unfortunately for your friend, NASCAR is a sport. Its a competition based event, where teams and or indiviuals compete for the top prize (event win or championship).

2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation."
As any kind of motorsport requires physical contribution and a massive amount of skill.. Its a sport...
Jedi1josh - Hahaha, well i guess you got me there. Mind you Twister as a sport... That WOULD be interesting.
Dont get me wrong, NASCAR is boring and I wouldn't ever watch it, but its classed as a sport.

Unfortuatly it is asport but anyone can get in a car and go around a cirualar track
