I think they are just trying to make everyone happy by dancing around the subject. If they come right out and say they support gay marrage and gay in the military then they are going to have alot of people (including democrats) who disagree with that and they will lose out on votes. Even though people are democrat does not mean they support gay rights. In addition if they came out and said that there should be no gay marrage and no gays in the military then they would piss off gay people/gay supporters. Unfortunatly for them the situation is lose/lose. Whatever they say they are going to get backlash so I agree with thier choice not to say anything.
I guess people will have to wait until someone is in office to see the true colors of a person.

"I think traditionally the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman has restricted his public comments to military matters," said Obama, leaving Capitol Hill. "That's probably a good tradition to follow."
He turned the conversation to opposition to the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy: "I think the question here is whether somebody is willing to sacrifice for their country."
I didn't have to read any further than that... I think politicians have a tendency to speak over the heads of some people.. to me that is a perfect explanation of where Obama stands.. and very well stated at that... it's more effective to speak in a way that makes people think about the situation.. as opposed to just blurting out your opinion.

I don't know about Obama's opinions on the matter, but in the case of Hillary, I would say just remember that it was Bill who brought us the now famous "Don't ask, Don't Tell" policy.
The unfortunate fact in general is that most politicians, regardless of political affiliation are not going to take a direct stand on hotbed issues which can cost them an election. It's too bad really, because whether I can agree with a person or not on an issue, I respect honesty and honesty is a major mark of integrity. Integrity is for me one of the single greatest factors involved when choosing a person to vote for.

When Repubs take a "stand" on touchy subjects like intelligent design, and separation of church and state, then get back to us Dems about gays in the military.
The Dems are too smart to let this issue become the next "flag burning amendment" Repub red herring.
We need those bible-belt hick/hayseed votes. I hope us Dems pimp religion, morals, and "values" just like the Repubs have over the years just to get those votes.

Nice source.
Remember Clinton in 1992? He promised to rescind the ban on gays in the military and it turned out to be a wedge issue. Hillary and Obama are practicing a political maneuver know as "not taking the bait."

Humm... Well this country is based on freedom so that would include freedom of sexuality. Gays/Lesbians are demoralized by religion which is also funny because bi sexuality in men goes back to biblical times and in philosophy before christ there was bi sexuality in men and women. Plato and Aristotle were gay and scholars live by them. Shakesperian days were bi sexual and we teach him in schools. I am personally heterosexual but I do think our government would have alot less issues and pointless views if they would stop basing their decisions on their personal religious beliefs. Freedom of religion means you can not subject me to your beliefs and that should include the law. You think its wrong, ok don't do it, but to stop other people by making laws is wrong. Military should allow gays/lesbians. Men can join the military and have sex with women in or not in military so if you keep it to yourself you should be able to enter the military regardless of your sexual preference. It's sad that people would base their vote for a person to run our country on how that person stands religiously. If our country thinks it is immoral ok fine, you have that right, if a politican is not doing it then leave them be, don't bash them for saying it is ok for people to exercise the freedoms we still have, or do we still have any?? And our leaders should stand up for them regardless. They would probably get alot more respect from the people if they were honest and faught for what they believed.

If you have to bash people for what they like to do in bed
then i'd say you are despicable.
Notice John Edwards wasn't afraid of the neo-cons when he said
point blank
no he does not consider it immoral
I'm not gay----don't hang with gays
don't want to be gay or hang with the gays
But it's their right to do as they please as far as I'm concerned
And I think its STUPID not to allow them in the military
If the draft ever was reinstated
Republicans by the drove would be claiming their gayness

I think it just proves that nobody believes they can win a campaign with blunt honesty. Sad. Can we just get somebody who speaks their mind no matter what and isn't afraid of criticism? KO for President.
