This question is often asked. Here is an answer from an actual doctor:

"You can safely dye your hair during pregnancy. It will not cause any harm to you, the pregnancy, or the fetus. However, since the protein in your hair changes during pregnancy, it is possible that you will not get the exact color you think you are going to come out with. " ~Lawrence Jay Rappaport M.D.

People used to worry about it absorbing into your scalp and causing harm, but its just not the case. Make sure the salon is well ventilated as the fumes are not good and can make you ill. Best of luck to you.

I dyed my hair like 5 times throughout my pregnancy and nothing happened to my son. He came out perfect. I don't know that I'd suggest bleaching it, but hair dye is fine. It won't do anything to the baby, just make sure you're in a well ventalated area.

The problem isn't in damaging the baby, it is that your hair reacts differently to the chemicals. A dye job now could make your hair turn an unexpected color. I'd skip it.

I bleached my hair while I was pregnant with my daughter--she's fine.

I did my own research--and according to everything I read, it said that dying your hair does not put enough chemicals in your body to make a difference. When they tested it on pregnant mice---they had to use a significant amount of the chemicals (much more that we need to dye our hair) to even have any noticible affect on the offspring.. And that's a mouse--much smaller than a human.

---edit---
Hair DyeThe use of hair dyes during pregnancy in women has not been well studied. No increase in fetal defects in the offspring of 118 women, 18 of whom used hair dyes in the first trimester, has been reported.[178] Hair dyes have been more extensively studied in laboratory animals. Rats fed a composite of a series of commercially available hair colorings from days 6 to 18 of gestation with doses of up to 97.5 mg/kg/day exhibited no teratogenicity.[179] Five oxidative hair dyes were administered by gavage to rats with up to 500 mg/kg daily on days 6-15 and again no adverse fetal effects were observed.[180] Mice injected with up to 1024 mg/kg hair dye on days 6-15 had an increase in maternal mortality at 64 mg/kg but no increase in fetal malformations. At doses that were toxic to the mother (160 and 256 mg/kg/day), defects were produced with two types of dye (4-nitro-p-phenylenediamine and 4-nitro-o-phenlyenediamine). Cleft palate was the most common defect observed, but staining of fetal myocardium was also noted.[181] The outcomes of 714 pregnancies among hairdressers revealed no increased risk for either early pregnancy loss or other adverse fetal outcome (OR 0.94).[182]

Basically, this says that the only mice to have detrimental effects on the baby were injected(not exposed to) so much dye that it had a detrimental effect on the motherd as well.

You can get your hair dyed, but getting it highlited instead is better they say cause not all of your hair is colored in that case.

My hair has been graying alot since the past 2 months especially, so watch out with the chemicals and hair dye color.

If you are having your hair done professionally, ask the salon if it's safe. I feared dying my hair with my first pregnancy even though everyone said it would be okay. I dyed it throughout my second pregnancy and have a very happy and healthy baby boy.
Congrats and good luck.

I asked my doctor at my last appointment and he said hair dye is fine. The worry is inhaling the chemicals so just be careful of that. Foils aren't as bad but if you want to dye your whole head it is fine.

maximum women who dye their hair, proceed to achieve this for the time of being pregnant. 2 of the justifications human beings say that's not a stable theory, is using fact the pigmentation of your hair and pores and skin can replace for the time of being pregnant, which skill your scalp could be extra mushy, or the colour would alter once you dye your hair, and because in case you have been to have an allergic reaction it ought to positioned the wellbeing of your self and foetus in possibility. yet whilst youve used a similar dye till now, you know you're no longer allergic. I used to have highlights whilst i grow to be pregnant, and whilst the bleach have been given on my scalp, i've got been given blisters, which I on no account experienced so extreme till now being pregnant. whether, whilst i desperate to pass dark, I used an ammonia loose dye and it grow to be high quality. there'll continuously be a minority who advise against each thing in being pregnant, yet maximum folk do no longer see a concern with this. stable luck with the toddler plans! :)
