NO!!!!!!!

They already expanded to the wild card teams a few years ago (which I'm not saying is bad), but let it be over. 4 Months of getting beat up on is enough for any man, let alone 1 that's losing 10 games over that course of time.

What say well you weren't good enough to get one of the wild card slots so we will let you play in this tournament instead? Come on, I could see in baseball with only one wildcard but not Football where there is still 2 and still 6 teams. No they shouldn't do it. The NIT was actually done orginally more for teams that should have been good enough but weren't brought in to the NCAA Tournament. The NIT is a joke now that the NCAA owns it though. The conspiracy theroy, and I think it is the truth, is that Syrcause was put in the NIT to try to make the NIT a more legit thing and get more intrest. So now we are going to see good teams not have a chance at the Championship because they want to see the NIT thrive? The NIT is a JOKE now and I'd hate to think any Pro league runs a second set of playoffs like the NCAA is doing now.

They would only be playing for 13th place---teams that don't make the playoffs start looking at draft position. No one wants to win games to try to get the 21st overall pick when they sucked all year and have a top 5 pick.
The NIT sucks and no one but fans of those teams watch anyways, I would watch my team play in the NFL version you describe but I would be mad if they won the whole thing and missed out on a good draft choice

Years ago the NFL actually had a 3rd place bowl game - I think it was the Bert Bell Bowl or something like that, and it was played annually in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

It didn't last long.

And the truth is for the teams who don't make it into the post season, their offseason starts immediately after their last regular season games. There is no sense risking whatever good players they have get injured (not to mention all of the legal issues coming with their potential free agents, etc).

I think the real question should be: Should the NCAA have a playoff system like the NFL?

No. For what purpose? To make non-playoff teams 'feel' better? Again NO.

Absolutlely not. Players are already asking for a shorter pre-season schedule, so, odds are they wouldn't want more games added to the season. There's too much potential for more injuries as well.

NFL would never do that because it would mean that they would have to pay the players more money on top of their salaries to compete.
