I prefer to cook with fresh ground - but be warned that you don't need nearly as much when it is fresh. The flavor is so much more intense. I try all different peppercorns - I particularly like white pepper. I also keep ready to use for anyone who may prefer it, but I think I've had the same can for years.

Black pepper is best when freshly ground so I use a pepper mill!
However, when I lived in the States years back we had some great ready to use that just never lost it's oomph - it was really flavoursome and delicious...

I use the ready to use kind but I hear that it's much better when you grind your own when you need it.

Yes. I prefer to grind my own because, I like my pepper with some pepper flakes. It is fresher and I don't like it pulverized into powder.

Definitely grind my own. In my house we call the other stuff 'flavorless pepper dust'.

I always grind my own pepper, and any other spice available whole - it stays fresher and retains its flavour longer and stronger this way.

I grind my own. I use less of it that way as it has a stronger flavor.
