All it means, very simply, is art is a way for people to understand one another without need for words or feelings. Art is the expression of the way a people live and think and grow and change. Art "communicates" more than words, in a simpler, more direct way.

Well you have to look on it as hat does art mean to humanity, and everyone knows that art is a personnel thing what is fantastic to one person may be hideous to another. How the human race sees or respects art doesn't really factor into appreciation of art.

It says art is not meant to please people but to communicate.

So a painting is not meant to be pleasing to the eye but to send a message.

Think for instance about the Guernica by Picasso: it was a statement about war. Also that painting by a spanish artist in which a few people are fussilated by the French.

Well that is at least what I understand

apart from the crowd one can see in the arts humanity and all that life holds and does not hold ,as i see ,you my or my not see as i do.but in the arts the message is clear for all to see if one opens his eyes beyound his likes and dislikes

this is referred to as art-speak and it really doesn't mean anything.
it's kind of like discussing the genius of a blank canvas and how the artist who left it blank was enlightened enough to let us interpret it ourselves.
normal people would refer to this kind of talk as Bull S***
