At the end of the second series the "others" kidnapped Sawyer, Jack and Kate. Why them? And who are the others n e ways?

Ben needed Jack to perform the operation on his spine as that is what Jack is qualified to do.
They kidnapped Sawyer and Kate as leverage to make Jack carry out the operation.
Who are "the others"? Can't wait to find out, middle of the third series and still we're none the wiser.
oh and thanks for the spoiler on the previous answer - the UK isn't up as far as the Clair / Jack story line yet assuming that is for real and you didn't just make that up. (unless I missed that bit in the confusing jumble of memories we keep getting during each episode)

As yet there has been no explaination as to who the 'others' are which is part of the reason we keep watching it!!!!
They don't call it 'LOST' for nothing! I just hope it all eventually will make sense!

To the best of my knowledge the three of them were involved because it's kind of a love triangle. Jack loves Kate, Kate loves Sawyer. They needed Jack to perform the operation on Ben's back so they brought Sawyer and Kate to act as leverage in order to make him do it. As far as who the others are, it's still unclear. According to eye patch man, they aren't part of the dharma initiative but there are some clues dotted about in the flashbacks. I think Ethan was part of the dharma initiative because you see him recruiting in one of the previous episode. We'll have to see what happens later in the season.

we also seen that it "appeared" Jack was living with the others and interacting with them normally? Has he comformed?? I love Lost!!
