never tried IUD but im currently using pills.

each has its advantages, and disadvantages
PILLS:advantages 1. there are different types of pills for different group of women-- combined pills for nullipara, low dose pills ,progestin only pills for nursing mothers etc,
2. corrects the irreguler cycles, heavy bleeding due to various causes.
3.very effective in preventing pregnancy if taken correctly
4. pregnancy occurs soon after stoppng the pill.
DISADVANTAGES: ,1.take them daily, correctly . If you miss a pill you either become pregnant or get breakthrough bleeding.
2. side effects are quite common ,esp,in the earlier days, -nausea , headaches, feeling of bloating and with prolonged use, weight gain and mood changes
3, if you suffer from medical disorders like heartdiseases and venous thrombosis, hypertension,you have to be cautious in taking them, under medical supervision only.
IUD:
ADVAVNTAGES:
1.single decision- can be used effectively fora long time 2..long lasting- with some of the copper bearing devices , protection lasts upto 10yrs,
3.noninterference with sex,
4.no hormonal side effects
5 easily .reversible-- women becom pregnant very soon after the removal of the device.
6..does not affect breast feeding
7.can be used thro'menopuse
8 no.interaction with any medicines nor is there any reaction with any systemic diseae.
disadvantages:
1.longer and heavier menstrual periods common in the first three months
2. , cramps and or pain during periods
3,medical examnatiom including a pelvic needed to insert the device
4.need to visit the health care presonnel for insertion and removal
5.expulsion outside or perforation into the abdominal cavity rarely occurs. -checkups needed to confirm thepresence of thread either by the woman or by her doctor.

My ob/gyn said that an IUD is more effective, but should only be used in a monogomous relationship. The IUD leaves your cervix open and if you were to get an STD it would be able to spread in more places such as your uterus and such. So if you're in a monogomous relationship (which I'm guessing you are considering you just gave birth) then and IUD is probably best. And it won't mess up your fertility or periods.
