Assuming Alex opts out of New York after this season, what teams are most likely to nab him?

edit- I dont think he'd remain in New York or go to Boston. If he's leaving the Yankees it would be to get out of the NY/Boston spotlight. In asking this question I was hoping for a Cubbies answer due to Piniella, but I agree that they might not be able to afford Arod and Soriano.

I'm a Cubs fan, too, and, believe you me, we'd love to have him. The Cubs haven't had a decent hitting shortstop since, well, since Nomar in '04, but he didn't work out too well.

As others have pointed out, though, it appears highly unlikely that the Tribune company could/would pony up the buckage for Soriano AND ARod. Then again, it could maybe possibly happen via a trade -- hey, we've got this great pitcher named Mark Prior. Want him?

My Cubbies aside, I'd pick the Mets. ARod wants to stay in New York and the Mets could use the offense.

Its going to be a big market team where he can be the central figure in the team - not have to share the spotlight like he has with the Yankees.

I don't know if the Cubs can currently affoard both Soriano and ARod, but if they do sell the team to Cuban that could be a possibility.

I would rank the possibilities in this order:

1) Angels - they seem to like collecting Latin American players, and if ARod has an interest in pursuing things beyond baseball (anyone remember when he and Daisy Fuentes did a Radio Shack commercial together?) LA would be the place to be.

2) Mets - Omar Minaya seems to be taking a page from the way the Angels build their team, and ARod might like the challenge of going to a new league, but staying in NY to battle Jeter head on for supremecy in the city.

3) White Sox - I debated putting the Dodgers here, but I think Chicago offers him a chance to be a central character in a team that has won the series.

4) Dodgers - the only reason why I didn't put the Dodgers higher is I think ARod wants to stay in the AL (have read nothing confirming this - call it a hunch).

5) Cubs - as I listed above right now I can't see the Cubbies having enough money to go around. If Mark Cuban does by the team then that is a possibility.

He'll probably end up with the Chicago Cubs. He has a real good relationship with Lou Piniella.

He'll stay put in New York if it's a ring he truly desires. If not he will end up with Lou and the Cubs who want him more than life itself.

I'm a Cubs fan, and I would love to see A-Rod come play short for the Cubbies. We all know that he is real good friends with Lou, and we need a good shortstop (our SS now is Cezar Izturis).

A-rod will reunite with Lou in Chicago. He has already said he was a father figure to him.

Rumor now is that he wants to finish his career as a yankee.
